On October 22nd 2005 Amy Merry of the Shimpokai Judo Club completed her Kata Grading to Shodan. Amy also won a Bronze Medal at Nationals in 2005. Shimpokai Members Attend Kata Clinic in Fredericton with Hiroshi Nakamura
On the weekend of October 21 the Judo Shimpokai attended a Kata Clinic in Fredericton. This clinic was attended by about forty people and was very beneficial. Being able to have Hiroshi Nakamura (who is the Coach of 2 time Olympic Medalist Nicolas Gill) on the mat was a great treat for all who attended. Comment :Judo NB entered 6 competitors out of 58 females competitors and won 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Judo NB entered 9 competitors out of 121 males competitors and won 1 bronze and had two 5th places.
Shimpokai Results The Shimpokai had only one entry in the juvenile category with Marcus Mason placing 5th in a category of 12 competitors. One more win and he would have had a bronze medal. Marcus ended up with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. This is Marcus' first year in Juvenile competition.

Shimpokai results: The Shimpokai had three competitorsentered in the Junior category with Amy Merry, now with the Shimpokai, placing 5th in a category of 15 competitors in the female category. One more win and she would have had a bronze medal. Our two competitors in the male category were Josh Shannon who won 1 and lost 2 and Drew Chenier who had two losses, one of which was to the gold medal winner.
Thanks to Jason Stears who traveled to Montreal as coach and Mrs. Merry and Mrs. Mason who also made the trip and cheered on our competitors.
